Sustainability

A festival on a shoreline owes the shoreline more than a recycling bin. Here is the whole plan, including the parts that are still hard.

What we've already committed

All power on the festival grounds comes from a battery-hybrid generator system charged off-peak, replacing diesel idling that used to run the same load. Every food vendor serves on certified compostable service ware and reports packaging choices in their contract. Water refill stations outnumber sell-points three to one, and bottled water is not sold on the island.

The ferry math

Removing 18,000 parking decisions per night is the single biggest footprint choice we make. The ferry fleet runs electric-assist hybrids on the daytime loop. It is also, honestly, the best part of the commute.

What's still hard

Art freight. Nine mirror-polished sculptures ship from three continents and air freight is the honest name for that footprint. We offset the freight at a verified rate and design the sculptures to be disassembled, flat-packed and reused for at least three editions before any rework. It's a compromise we can explain out loud, which is the standard we hold ourselves to.

The leave-no-trace bar

2026 diverted 82% of festival waste from landfill. The 2027 target is 90%, tracked publicly at the sustainability desk by the main gate, with a daily posting of the actual number, not the aspiration.
